GETTING TO KNOW OUR SASKATCHEWAN VOLUNTEERS

Name:
Pat Kuspira

1.  Current Residence -
Yorkton
2.  Hometown -
Yorkton
3.  Current curling club
Yorkton Curling Club
4.  Occupation -
Manager of Staff Relations at Sunrise Health Region
5.  Family -
I am married to Bryan Kuspira, and we have three beautiful daughters - Ashley (24), Katelyn (22), and Heather (19).  We also have two dogs in our house (Kobi and Shaq) who belong to Katelyn and Heather.  Ashley and her fiancĂ©e Kyle have two dogs (Gus and Charlie Bean) as well, so when they come to visit it is quite an experience.
6.  Event/organizations you are volunteering for this year -
Cornerstone Credit Union Women’s Cash Bonspiel and other Yorkton Curling Club events
7.  What is your favourite part about volunteering? Being part of a great committee, meeting new people, and hosting a successful event.  It makes you feel good to volunteer and see the benefits to your club and community.
8.  Why should people go and watch or participate in your events?
People should definitely come out to watch the bonspiel as we have great teams from across the province (and sometimes from out of province as well) coming to curl in it.   Fans will have the opportunity to watch great shot-making and socialize with other fans and curlers in the lounge after the games.  Teams should definitely consider our bonspiel as we have great sponsorship, great prize money, and fantastic ice (thanks Neil).  We have been so fortunate to have our bonspiel filled every year since its inception, and we hope to do the same this year.
9.  What is your most memorable curling moment?
There are many memorable curling moments, as I have been curling for over 35 years now.  There have been the moments participating in the Northern Women’s Playdowns, being in the final at the Provincial Mixed Playdowns, winning the Cornerstone Credit Union Women’s Cash Bonspiel twice, but also those moments curling with great friends in the local ladies league, and laughing so hard at the antics of people I have curled with while trying to skip a game and maintain some sort of normalcy on the ice.
10.  Who is your favourite curler and why?
There are many.
1.  The Sandra Schmirler Team.  They were extremely successful and did so much to put Saskatchewan on the map with regard to women’s curling.
2.  Cathy Inglis.  She has been my best friend since Grade 4.  I am proud of her accomplishments in both women’s and mixed curling.
3.  All of the individuals that I have had opportunity to curl with over the years, both competitively and otherwise.  It is the people and the camaraderie that make this sport what it is.
