SaskPower Scotties Provincial Women’s Championships
Balgonie, SK
January 23-27, 2013

Congratulations to the Jill Shumay team on winning this event! Shumay had a hit and stick for the win over Stefanie Lawton, finishing with a final score of 8-7. Lawton had advanced to the final after beating Shumay 5-4 in the A1 vs B1 page playoff game. Shumay played the semi-final against Amber Holland, finishing with a convincing 8-3 victory and moving on to the final. Holland had beaten Chantelle Eberle 11-6 in the A2 vs B2 game.

Shumay will represent Saskatchewan at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kingston, ON, from February 16-24, 2013.

SWCT Curling Talk [January 15th]

Happy New Year, everyone!  2013 marks the beginning of an exciting playdown circuit.  Here is the first update of the year.

EVENTS FROM THE LAST TWO WEEKS

Junior Women’s Provincial Championships

Weyburn, SK

January 3-7, 2013

Advancing to the page playoff from their respective pools were Katherine Michaluk, Jessica Hanson, Lorraine Schneider, and defending champion Kristen Streifel.  Schneider took on Michaluk, winning 10-7 and advancing to the next round where she would await the loser of the 1-2 game.  The 1-2 game featured Hanson vs. Streifel, where Streifel stamped out a 10-5 win.  Hanson went on to beat Schneider 7-6 in the semi-final, earning herself a second chance at Streifel in the final.  She took the game to an extra end, winning the game with a final score of 9-8. 

The Canadian Junior Women’s Championships will be held in Fort MacMurray, AB from February 2-10, 2013.   Good luck to Team Hanson!

SaskPower  Scotties Women’s Northern Playdowns

North Battleford, SK

January 10-13, 2013

Trish Paulsen qualified out of the A event, winning 7-6 over Ros Stewart in the A final.  Advancing from the B event was Nancy Martin, with a 6-4 win over Brett Barber.  Barber went on to qualify in a C event, winning 8-6 over Brenda Goertzen.  The other C event featured Jill Shumay against Ros Stewart, with Shumay winning 10-2. 

SaskPower Scotties Women’s Southern Playdowns

Melville, SK

January 11-13, 2013

Penny Barker was the first team to qualify for provincials, winning the A final 10-8 over Candace Chisholm.  Chisholm bounced back and took the B event, where she defeated Deanna Doig 8-1.  Doig reached a C qualifier, but fell 6-4 to Mandy Selzer.  Selzer will advance from the C, along with Deanne Miller-Jones, who edged Teejay Haichert 7-6 in the other C qualifier.
