SWCT Curling Talk (January 24)

RESULTS
Continential Cup
Langley, BC
January 12 - 15, 2012
Saskatchewan teams Stefanie Lawton and Amber Holland competed as part of Team North America in Women's Team events, Skins, and Mixed Doubles.  Team North America lost the overall competition to Team World, with the teams' final scores being 165 and 235, respectively.


Northern Women's Playdowns
Prince Albert, SK
January 13 - 15, 2012
Saskatoon's Rachel Fritzler worked her way quickly through the A event, beating Brandee Borne 7-6 to secure the first provincial spot of the event.  Jill Shumay proceeded to beat Borne in the B event qualifier, 9-4.  In the C event, it was Borne against Robyn Silvernagle of Meadow Lake.  Silvernagle nailed down her provincial entry with a win over Borne of 9-3.  Also qualifying from the C event was Darlene Gillies of Unity, who beat Tina Hill 7-6.


Southern Women's Playdowns
Weyburn, SK
January 13 - 15, 2012
Chantelle Eberle of Regina defeated Mandy Selzer 5-4 in the A qualifier to take the first provincial spot. Selzer came up against Penny Barker in the B qualifier, winning 8-4.  In the C event qualifiers, Barker lost to Susan Lang, 7-5.  Maryfield's Candace Chisholm qualified in the other C event, beating Regina's Deanna Doig 8-7.

Battleford, SK
January 20-22, 2012
Delores Syrota downed Brenda Goertzen 11-5 to qualify in the A event. In the B event, Peggy Fernquist overcame Goertzen 10-5 to take the second qualifier.  It was Jacqueline Swiderski against Laura Jergens in the C qualifier, with Swiderski coming out on top, winning 8-6.

6. Event/organizations you are volunteering for this year – I am co-chairing the host committee for the Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts
7. What is your favourite part about volunteering? Working with a wonderful community and group of volunteers.
8. Why should people go and watch or participate in the Provincial Scotties? SK women curlers are always contenders at the Nationals so the level of play is outstanding. The event in Humboldt will have a party atmosphere with two cabarets so even non-curling fans should come out and have a good time!
9. What is your most memorable curling moment? Being the underdog and qualifying for the SK Winter Games in 1994.
10. Who is your favourite curler and why? Easy...Sandra Schmirler. She was humble and unassuming and was always aiming to improve.

SWCT Curling Talk (January 13)

RESULTS
Junior Women's Curling Provincials
Moose Jaw, SK 
January 5 - 8, 2012
Saskatoon's Kristen Streifel beat Brooklyn Lemon in the final to claim the 2012 Junior Women's Provincial Title. Streifel beat Alexandra Williamson in the Semi-Final and Ashely Skjerdal in the Quarter Final. Other teams that competed were Ashley Lang, Alison Ingram, Shelby Silzer, Justine Hutton, Malysha Johnstone, Katherine Michaluk, Lorraine Schneider, and Kourtney Fesser.
