SWCT Curling Talk [December 18th]

December 7-9, 2012
The final for this event featured Candace Chisholm and Chantelle Eberle.  Eberle won 6-5 in an exciting extra end game.  Eberle took on Ros Stewart in the quarter-final, winning 6-1 before moving on to a 7-1 victory over Kristen Streifel in the semi-final.  Chisholm edged Penny Barker 8-7 in another quarter-final, and beat Mandy Selzer 6-2 in the semi-final.  Also qualifying were Michelle Englot and Deanna Doig.

SWCT Curling Talk [December 4th]


EVENTS FROM THE LAST TWO WEEKS

The Canada Cup
Moose Jaw, SK
November 28-December 2, 2012
Congratulations to Stefanie Lawton and her team on winning this event and earning a berth in the Canadian Olympic Trials in 2013!  The team came out strong against Team Jennifer Jones, winning 6-4 and making this the third Canada Cup victory for the team.

Boundary Ford Curling Classic
Lloydminster, AB
November 28-December 2, 2012
Kelly Wood of Swift Current advanced to the semi-final round, losing a close 6-5 to Renee Sonnenberg.  Wood received $3,500 for her accomplishments.  Also qualifying was Amber Holland, who lost the quarter-final round to Sonnenberg.  Holland edged out Jill Shumay in the C qualifier to advance.  She goes home with $2,250.  Other Sask teams included Brett Barber, Chantelle Eberle, Trish Paulsen, Deanna Doig, and Ashley Skjerdal.

Dekalb Superspiel
Morris, MB
November 22-25, 2012
Participating Sask teams were Candace Chisholm, Deanna Doig and Sherry Just.  Just tackled Chisholm in a C qualifier before advancing to the playoffs, but fell 8-6 to Winnipeg’s Barb Spencer.  Just earns $1,600 for her efforts.

Saskatchewan Junior Women’s Southern and Northern Playdowns
Whitewood, SK/Shellbrook, SK
November 23-25, 2012
In the southern playdowns, Nicole Thompson earned the A qualifier spot; Ashley Skjerdal took the B; and Malysha Johnstone and Allyson Grywacheski took the remaining C qualifiers.
In the northern playdowns, it was Kristen Streifel winning the A qualifier; Brooke Tokarz earned a B spot; and Danielle Bertsch took a C qualifier.

Joining these teams at the Provincial Playdowns are Jessica Hanson, Lorraine Schneider, Alexandra Williamson, and Katherine Michaluk, who qualified out of the Q-spiels in Saskatoon and Regina earlier this season.

SWCT Curling Talk [November 20th]

Colonial Square Ladies’ Curling Classic
Saskatoon, SK
November 8-12, 2012
Congratulations to Team Lawton for winning this event!  Lawton won seven straight games and stole the final end against Chelsey Carey, winning 5-4 and taking home $12,000.  Amber Holland and Chantelle Eberle also qualified for the playoff round, each coming out of a C event.  Holland lost in the first playoff round to Shannon Kleibrink, leaving with $2,000.  Eberle edged out Eve Muirhead before losing the quarter-final to Rachel Homan.  Eberle wins $3,000 for her efforts.  Also participating were several Sask teams, including Penny Barker, Candace Chisholm, Deanna Doig, Michelle Englot, Rachel Fritzler, Nancy Martin, Deanne Miller-Jones, Larisa Murray, Trish Paulsen, Jill Shumay, Ros Stewart, and Kelly Wood.

Stefanie Lawton split her round robin games at 2-3, failing to qualify for a playoff round.  Amber Holland competed in the tier two event, but lost three straight and missed out on the playoffs.

SWCT Curling Talk [November 6th]


EVENTS LAST WEEKEND

Red Deer Curling Classic
Red Deer, AB
November 2-5, 2012
Competing in this event were Trish Paulsen, Kelly Wood, Brett Barber and Deanna Doig.  All of the teams missed qualifying for the playoff round; however, Paulsen came close, losing a C qualifier to Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni.

Prince Albert Business Girls’ Cash Spiel
Prince Albert, SK
November 2-4, 2012
The event was a success, and ran with 12 teams!  Amanda Labach was the champion of this spiel, beating Jill Shumay 4-3 in the final and winning $1600.  Labach qualified out of the C event, and went on to overcome Penny Barker in the quarter-final 7-5, before beating Larisa Murray 8-3 in the semi-final.  Shumay qualified out of the A, and took on Sherry Just in the semi-final, winning 6-4.  Just had taken on Heather Burnett earlier in the day, winning 9-7 in the quarter-final.  Barker and Burnett each leave with $700; Murray and Just with $900; and Shumay with $1200.

SWCT Curling Talk [October 23rd]

Winnipeg, MB
Oct. 19-22nd
Congratulations to Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton on winning this event!  Lawton qualified out of the C event, edging out Regina’s Amber Holland 4-3 in the qualifying game.  Lawton proceeded through the playoff round, taking on Edmonton’s Laura Crocker in the quarter-final and Calgary’s Shannon Kleibrink in the semi-final, before overcoming Ontario’s Rachel Homan with a final score of 6-4.

Moose Jaw Women’s Sask Tour Spiel
Moose Jaw, SK
Oct 19-21
Ros Stewart beat Sherilee Orsted 6-2 in the final, taking home $2600.  Orsted went home with $1600.  Orsted won against Sherry Just 8-7 in the semi-final after qualifying out of the A event.  Stewart qualified out of the C event to reach the playoffs.  In the quarter-final, she downed Candace Chisholm 7-4, before moving on to beat Lorraine Arguin 5-4 in the semi-final.  Just and Arguin both earned $1200 each.  Also qualifying was Michelle Englot, who fell to Just in the quarter-final.  She and Chisholm left with $700 each.

SWCT Curling Talk [October 16th]


EVENTS LAST WEEKEND

MNP Charity Classic
Medicine Hat, AB
October 12-15
Congratulations to Chantelle Eberle’s team from Regina on winning this event! Eberle took on Lisa Eyamie of High River, AB, winning the final 7-2 and going home with $8000.  Eberle qualified out of the C event, taking on Bingyu Wang in the quarter-final and Amy Nixon in the semi-final.  Also participating in the event were several other Sask teams, including Brett Barber, Penny Barker, Trish Paulsen, Deanna Doig, and Kelly Wood.  Deanna Doig just missed the playoffs, losing a C qualifier to Edmonton’s Tiffany Game.

Nutana Women’s Sask Tour Bonspiel
Saskatoon, SK
October 12-14
The final game in this event featured Regina’s Michelle Englot and Larisa Murray.  Englot downed Murray 6-4 in the end, taking home $1600, while Murray received $1200.  Englot beat Nancy Martin of Saskatoon in the semi-final, after qualifying out of the A event early on Saturday.  Murray also qualified out of the A, and took on Mandy Selzer of Balgonie in the semi-final.  Selzer edged out Debbie Folk 4-3 to reach the quarter-final, winning herself $900.  Martin beat Jill Shumay 6-5 in the quarter-final to advance.  Martin receives $900, while Shumay and Folk each take home $700.

SWCT Curling Talk [October 9th]

EVENTS LAST WEEKEND

Rocktoberfest
Regina, SK
October 5-8, 2012
Candace Chisholm of Maryfield won the event, taking home $4500 and downing Regina’s Michelle Englot 7-6.  Chisholm overcame Kerri Einarson 5-4 in the quarter-finals, followed by Larisa Murray 6-3 in the semi-final.  Englot took on Nancy Martin, beating her 8-4, before her 6-4 win against Kelly Wood in the semi-final.  Einarson and Martin each pocketed $800; Wood and Murray took home $1500.  Englot received $2500 for the weekend.  Also qualifying were Chantelle Eberle and Deanna Doig, who also received $800.

Participating SK teams included Trish Paulsen, Amber Holland and Stefanie Lawton.  Lawton qualified for the playoffs, losing in the quarter-finals to Shannon Kleibrink and bringing home $4000.  Paulsen reached a C semi-final, losing to Lisa Eyamie of High River, AB.  Holland was defeated early in the C event by Laura Crocker of Edmonton.

- The deadline for teams to register for CTRS points is October 31, 2012. Go to http://teams.curlingzone.com/index.php?task=Register to register. CTRS is free, is used to seed events, and to keep track of the points for the provincial points race. To verify that your team is registered, go to http://www.curling.ca/ctrs-trials/2012-2013-ctrs-standings-women/ to view this year's complete list of teams. 
- To vie for the CTRS and SWCT provincial spot, all participants must be affiliated members of the SCA. Team rosters must be declared on a SCA Playdown Registration Form. Competition Fee including the CCA fee must be paid to the Region Director, or the SCA Office by, November 1, 2012. Points accumulated prior to November 1, 2012 will count only if fees and forms are submitted to the Region Director or the SCA office by November 1, 2012. If registrations are received after November 1, 2012, only points obtained from the date of receipt of registration will be eligible. 

- Registration for the following competitions can be done online from the SCA website: http://www.saskcurl.com/sca/competitions.html  
- Entry deadline for Junior Women's Q-Spiels are 6:00 PM, the Monday prior to the start of the bonspiel. (as per the SCA website)
- Please refer to SCA website for the entry deadline for the Senior Women's Q-Spiels.
- Junior Women's Open North/South playdown deadline is 12:00 PM, Tuesday, November 13, 2012 (as per the SCA website).
- The entry deadline for the Women's Natural Ice Provincials is

- The entry deadline for the Master Women's Provincials is 
12:00 PM, Tuesday, February 5, 2013(as per the SCA website).
