Name
Bernadette McIntyre
1. Current Residence – Regina, SK
2. Hometown – Bethune, AB
3. Current curling club – Highland Curling Club, Regina
4. Occupation - CEO Wascana Centre Authority
5. Family – Married to Richard McIntyre for almost 28 years and have two great children Lisa 22 and Shawn 16
6. Event/organizations you are volunteering for this year – Saskatchewan Credit Unions Queen City Marathon, The Capital One Canada Cup of Curling, The Canadian Two Person Stick Curling Championship, the Juvenile Diabetes Ride for the Cure, The Canadian Capital Cities Organization, Curl Regina, Highland Curling Club Cooperative, the Canadian Curling Association (complete the end of June 2012). Friends of Wascana Marsh.
7. What is your favourite part about volunteering? Working with all the other volunteers toward a common goal and having fun while we do it.
8. Why should people curl and why should they go watch any of the major events hosted around the province and beyond? Curling is a great game that a person can enjoy at many levels of play for your entire life – it provides physical activity within a wonderfully friendly and social environment. Curing events are great fun to attend. The action on the ice is always entertaining and the fun off the ice is friendly – the community of curlers and curling fans are awesome!
9. What is your most memorable curling moment? The final day of the 1998 Scott Tournament of Hearts, when the Brandt Centre was full to the brim, even though neither of the Saskatchewan teams were curling. It was such a reward for the many volunteers that even though the game was on TV, they showed up to enjoy the event that so many had worked so hard to make extra special. Then a few weeks later we found out that for the first time ever the Canadian Women’s Curling Championship had a higher attendance than the Men’s Canadian Curling Championship. Thanks to the Schmirler Team, the Trowell team and the volunteers – a record was set that has yet to be broken.
10. Who is your favourite curler and why? Sam Richardson for all he has put into the game and community, while curling and for decards after with all his support and speaking engagements across the country. Sam is a great person - curling icon.
