SWCT Curling Talk (March 15)

This year three of Saskatchewan Womens team members were on the second all-star team (Tammy Schneider, Kim Schneider, and Amber Holland).

March 5 - 13, 2011
World Junior Championship
Perth, Scotland
Trish Paulsen and company had to go the long way into playoffs and beat USA in a tie-breaker, and then beat Sweden in the 3 - 4 game, and Russia in the semi-final, but lost to Scotland in the final to capture the silver.

Provincial Masters Women's Championship

Wadena, Saskatchewan
The competing teams at the Masters were Rhoda Besse, Pat Bibby, Joan Buckmaster, Anita Ford, Fay Jackson, Marion Jesmer, Merle Kopach, Liane McLean, Lee Morrison, Leona Murray, Nancy Scott, Jacqueline Swiderski, and Marlene Wilkinson. Kopach and Ford finished with 4-0 records in their pools, and then four teams finished with 3-1 records creating tie-breakers. McLean advanced in one tie-breaker over Buckmaster, and Swiderski beat Besse in the other tie-breaker. Kopach beat Ford in the 1-2 game, and Swiderski beat McLean in the 3-4 game. Ford rebounded by beating Swiderski in the semi-final, and then Kopach in the final.

2011 CIS/CCA Curling Championships
St. John's, Newfoundland
The Regina Cougars skipped by Alexandra Williamson finished the round robin with a 2 - 5 record, and the Saskatchewan Huskies skipped by Ashley Gregoire finished with a 1 -  6 record. Both were not able to advance to playoffs.

Getting to know our Saskatchewan Women Curlers


1. Name – Chelsey Peterson
2. Nicknames - Chels
3. Who do you curl with – Skip; Brooklyn Lemon, Third; myself (Chelsey Peterson), Second; Ashley Green, Lead; Nicole Lang, Fifth; Sarah Watiminuk, and Coach; Travis Brown
4. How long have you guys curled together? About a year, but I curled with Ashley Green previously in Juniors and Nic and Brooke a bit longer.
5. Occupation – I am currently attending SIAST Wascana Campus in Regina where I am a First year Nursing Student.
6. Current Residence - Regina
7. Hometown - Estevan
8. Family - My parents are Al and Carol, I have two younger sisters Ashley and Shelby. We have a Springer Spaniel named Hershey, and a cat we call Kit-Kat, and the newest additiona is a Love Bird we call Bell (this is the only pet that I have in the city).
9. Tattoos? None
10. Favourite drink - Milk-shakes
11. Favourite alcoholic drink - Either spiced rum with orange pop or rye and coke.
12. Favourite event to curl in?  I always love to curl in the Benson Farmers Spiel because it is not to serious and always fun. But for competitive play I enjoy the Schmirler because it is great experience, unbelievable level of play and curlers come from all over to play in it.
13. Which curler or team did you idolize growing up and why? Growing up I would have to say I idolized Cindy Street because she was the first one to teach me how to curl out in Benson, SK in a learn to curl day camp.
14. Of all the curlers past and present who would be the most entertaining curler and why?  Most entertaining European curler would have to be Christopher Svae just because he does not care about what level he is competing at he always makes sure he is having fun on and off the ice.
