SWCT Curling Talk (November 1)


EVENTS LAST WEEKEND
Moose Jaw Women's Sask Tour Spiel
October 21-23, 2011
Moose Jaw Curling Centre, Moose Jaw, SK
The winner of the inaugural spiel held in Moose Jaw’s brand new rink was the hometown team of Lorraine Arguin. After qualifying through the B side, Arguin went on to defeat Larissa Murray. After being down 5-1 in the 7th, Arguin pulled it through wining the game 6-5. Qualifying out of the A side was Murray from Regina and Sherrilee Orsted from Estevan. Murray met up with Penny Barker’s team in the semifinals and Orsted rallied against Arguin. Also qualifying for the championship event were Cindy Ricci and Michelle Englot.

Manitoba Lotteries Women's Classic
October 21-24, 2011
Winnipeg, MB
There were three Saskatchewan teams competing in the Winnipeg event this year: Chantelle Eberle, Amber Holland, and Stefanie Lawton. Lawton was the only team to reach playoffs however lost 6-5 to Manitoba’s Cathy Overton-Clapham in an extra end in the quarter finals.  

Colonial Square Ladies Classic
October 28-31, 2011
Nutana, Saskatoon, SK
32 teams took to the ice in the Saskatoon spiel, with Crystal Webster from Calgary winning the final game against Valerie Sweeting of Alberta. There were 12 Saskatchewan teams participating: Penny Barker, Brandee Borne, Jolene Campbell, Chantelle Eberle, Michelle Enlgot, Stefanie Lawton, Brooklyn Lemon, Trish Paulsen, Cindy Ricci, Jill Shumay, Robyn Silvernagle, and Samantha Yachiw. Making it the farthest was Regina`s Stephanie Lawton who lost 6-7 to Webster in the qualifying round.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

NOVEMBER 1, 2011: To vie for the CTRS and SWCT provincial spot, all participants must be affiliated members of the SCA. Team rosters must be declared on a SCA Playdown Registration Form. Competition Fee including the CCA fee must be paid to the Region Director, or the SCA Office by, November 1, 2011. Points accumulated prior to November 1, 2011 will count only if fees and forms are submitted to the Region Director or the SCA office by November 1, 2011. If registrations are received after November 1, 2011 only points obtained from the date of receipt of registration will be eligible.  

Q-SPIELS:
- Entry deadline for Junior Women's Q-Spiels are 6:00 PM, the Monday prior to the start of the bonspiel. (as per the SCA website)
- Please refer to SCA website for the entry deadline for the Senior Women's Q-Spiels
NOVEMBER 15, 2011: Junior Women's Open North/South playdown deadline is 12:00 PM, Tuesday, November 15, 2011 (as per the SCA website). 

DECEMBER 13, 2011: The entry deadline for the Women's Open North/South is 12:00 PM, Tuesday, December 13, 2011 (as per the SCA website). 

JANUARY 3, 2012: The entry deadline for the Women's Natural Ice Provincials is 12:00 PM, January 3, 2012 (as per the SCA website). 

JANUARY 24, 2012: The entry deadline for the Master Women's Provincials is 12:00 PM, Tuesday, January 24, 2012 (as per the SCA website).

FEBRUARY 28, 2012: The entry deadline for the Juvenile zone playdowns is 12:00 PM, Tuesday, February 28, 2012 (as per the SCA website). 

MARCH 11, 2012: For the Dominion Women's Playdowns you will need to contact your local region director with regards to the entry deadline. All regions are to be determined by March 11, 2012 (as per SCA website).

I curl in the afternoon leagues on Monday and Thursday out of the  i-Plex Swift Current Curling Club.

I have 2 children; 1 in Swift Current and 1 in Fort McMurray who recently moved back home to Canada from Taiwan with his Taiwanese wife. I have 3 grandsons in Swift Current who keep me busy when mom and dad are working and need to be places, I enjoy it. We have a dog Mesha
6.  Event/organizations you are volunteering for this year -
I am currently the coordinator for the SWCT in Swift Current. I volunteer at the Swift Current Care Centre and take residents to appointments or shopping, whatever is needed. I am also the Community Life coordinator for the Catholic Women’s League.
7.  What is your favourite part about volunteering? I enjoy volunteering and meeting different people.
8.  Why should people go and watch or participate in your events?
People should come out to watch the Sask Women’s Tour because it has some of the best curlers in Saskatchewan, not too often we can come up close and personal with them. It's also cheap/ "free” and there are not too many places you can go and have excellent entertainment for free.
9.  What is your most memorable curling moment?
Watching the World’s that were here last year and all the good shots made. Wish I could make them.
10.  Who is your favourite curler and why?
My favourite curler is Kevin Martin. He is intense but he also seems to be enjoying himself sometimes.
