SWCT Curling Talk [November 6th]


The long weekend is approaching! Let’s take a quick look back at the last couple of weeks:

Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Women’s Classic
Winnipeg, MB
October 25-28, 2013
Participating Sask teams were Amber Holland, Michelle Englot, and Trish Paulsen. None of our teams qualified for the playoff round, but Holland lost a C qualifier to Crystal Webster.

Shamrock Shotgun
Edmonton, AB
October 25-27, 2013
Team Syngenta (Barber) finished first in her pool and moved on to the quarter final.  She lost to Alberta’s Jessie Kaufman, but took home $800.

The Masters of Curling
Abbotsford, BC
October 30-November 3, 2013
Team Lawton finished the round robin with a record of 3-1, advancing to the playoff round and losing to Jennifer Jones in the quarter final.  Lawton earns $7500 for this event.

Red Deer Curling Classic
Red Deer, AB
November 1-4, 2013
Participating Sask teams were Barber and Paulsen. Paulsen qualified out of the A event, advancing to the quarter final where she lost to Switzerland’s Binia Feltscher.  She earned $2500 at this event.

GoodLife Prince Albert Ladies Cash Spiel
Prince Albert, SK
November 1-3, 2013.
This event ran as a pay-per-win event, as we were unable to meet the 12 team requirement for a CTRS event.  Thank you to Pat Bibby and the Prince Albert curling club for running the event and allowing our ladies teams to enjoy some games together.

A LITTLE TRIVIA…

What province holds the highest number of national women’s championship (Scotties) titles?

-Saskatchewan holds the highest number of national women’s championships, with a total of 12 titles.  Past winners include Joyce McKee, Dorenda Schoenhals, Vera Pezer, Emily Farnham, Marj Mitchell, Sandra Schmirler (Peterson), and Amber Holland.

- Registration for the following competitions can be done online from the SCA website: http://curlsask.ca/competitions/

- The entry deadline for the Women’s open Northern and Southern playdowns is 12:00PM, Tuesday, December 3, 2013 (as per the CurlSask website).
- Entry deadline for Junior Women's Q-Spiels are 6:00 PM, the Monday prior to the start of the bonspiel.  Q-Spiel #2 deadline is November 11, 2013. Q-Spiel #3 deadline is November 25, 2013 (as per the CurlSask website).
- Please refer to CurlSask website for the entry deadline for the Senior Women's Q-Spiels.
- The entry deadline for the Master Women's Provincials is 12:00 PM, Tuesday, February 4, 2014(as per the CurlSask website).
- The entry deadline for the Juvenile regional playdowns is 12:00 PM, Tuesday, February 18, 2014 (as per the CurlSask website).
- The entry deadline for the Dominion Women’s regional playdowns is 12:00PM, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 (as per the CurlSask website).
